Hungary Honors Foreign Affairs Committee Staff Director Robert King

Ambassador Ferenc Somogyi presented Robert King with the Commander's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary awarded to him by the President of the Republic, László Sólyom, for his decades-long contributions to promoting U.S.-Hungarian relations.

Robert King has been the Staff Director of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs since 2007. Since the early 1990s, Mr. King held a number of senior positions on the Democratic staff of the Committee, and he was the Chief of Staff to Congressman Tom Lantos of California from 1983 until 2008.

As a White House Fellow in the National Security Council (1977-1978), Mr. King covered Soviet and East European Affairs under Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter. Mr. King also played an active role in the return of the Hungarian Holy Crown from Fort Know to Budapest in January 1978.
